Registration is now open for the NCHL Summer Hockey League. The NCHL is a local, recreational league for youth 5-15 and welcomes players of all skill levels.

Where: All games and practices are held at the NCHL Rink at Half Moon Bay High School

Cost: $160; siblings receive a $20 discount.

Register online here or in person at Give Hockey a Try Day, May 20, from 10am to 1pm at the Half Moon Bay High School Rink located at Lewis Foster Dr, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019.

No gear? No problem! Stop by Give Hockey a Try Day to pick up some used gear.

Excitement abounds as we head into Week 3 and Father’s Day festivities!

Thanks to Mary Beth Alexander and Amy Risk for being head honchos (honchettes?) for Photo Day, and to the volunteers who made it run smoothly! Pictures will be returned by week 9. Also a special shout-out to Hector Rodriguez, the SF Bulls and RAWHIDE for visiting the NCHL last Sunday; what a fun time it was. The league will likely plan a trip to the SF Bulls Opening Day of the 2013-14 season.

SNACK SHACK: Barb Capers and the Flying Puck Cafe will feature special Tri-Tip Sandwiches in honor of Father’s Day! In lieu of birthday presents, it’d be great if people can bring side dishes, since a pot luck would truly make it a special day for all the dads in attendance.

Please help us identify TEAM PARENTS, who can help us staff the Snack Shack with THREE (not 2) adults in the Snack Shack during your assign shift. It can get hectic in the Snack Shack, and we need your help. But it’s a great place to watch the games!

PRE-GAME PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Squirt 2 Coach Marc Higaki and the Half Moon Bay Volunteer Firefighters would like to welcome everyone to Half Moon Bay Fire Station 40 from 8am-noon on Sunday for a delicious Father’s Day breakfast. Proceeds benefit HMB Volunteer Fire Fighters.

JUNE 16 GAME SCHEDULE: Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your game time. Players should be prepared to start games on time so all games can finish on time.

Excitement abounds as the puck drops this Sunday, June 2 for the 22rd season of the North Coast Hockey League. Glad you’re joining us for what promises to be a fun and compelling season.

OPENING DAY FESTIVITIES: Opening Day special festivities include player autographs, a new Chuck-A-Puck (sponsored by Highway 1 Brewing Company), and a timed Top Ten contest (replacing the DoubleShot). Also a special welcome to the Lady Quakes Bantam team, which is joining us for the season!

TRAFFIC ALERT: Please allow extra time to drive to HMB for Opening Day, as there is a Bicycle Event on Highway 92 and signage warns that traffic will be impacted. You might download the “Waze” app for smartphones for real-time driving times and directions.

SAFETY FIRST: Please have your player walk over to the BGC Rink from the parking lot, and not get dressed in the parking lot and skate across the road. (This is also better for your skate wheels.) Also, for safety reasons, even though the NCHL is a non-checking league we request that all parents and players understand the signs and symptoms of concussions, and sign and submit a Concussion signs and symptoms sheet.

SNACK SHACK: Healthier food and special Meal Deals will be on sale at the Snack Shack, as will mouthguards (required for players). And if you haven’t paid your registration fee yet, you can do so here as well.

If you’re new to the NCHL, be sure to check out Pacifica Currents TV and YouTube for a special episode on the NCHL, with a lot of footage from the Boys and Girls Club Rink. The 30-minute show, broken up into three 10-minute segments, also offers a brief glimpse into the history of the NCHL and Bay Area hockey, plus a demonstration, and aired on Pacifica Cable Channel 26, and on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=DA0D3304E2E0D9C0

We still have room for sponsors!
